NCI Market Update | William Tierney, Ph.D.

Last week NCI presented the fourth installment in the Market Update series, featuring Dr. William Tierney. These Market Updates focus on serving past procurement course participants through providing new opportunities for participants to learn. With this engaged style, NCI focuses on fostering continued growth and professional development. Providing information to past course participants on a regular basis strengthens these connections and works to highlight market changes.

During this market update, participants were able to listen in and gain new insights from Tierney, the Chief Economist for AgResource Company. Tierney has over 32 years of experience working as a leading agricultural economist, primarily as a global crop market analyst. Tierney has held positions including USDA’s Principal Grains Economist, Professor in the Department of Ag Economics at Kansas State University, Exec VP for Research at a boutique commodity brokerage firm that serves mostly US ethanol plants, head of North American Research for LMC International, Senior Agricultural Analyst for Black River Assets Management, General Manager of Doane Advisory Services, and a Senior agricultural advisor in Iraq while working for the US government.

“I love doing video conferences. I recommend speakers to adopt format where they take questions at regular intervals. I think it increases engagement,” said Tierney in regards to the Market Update.

As mentioned before, this was the fourth webinar in an ongoing series designed to connect with NCI’s past course participants. All past procurement course participants are invited to attend these updates and learn more about ag markets. NCI strives to connect with past course participants, as well as support regional agriculture and value-added processing. By hosting market updates and continuing to provide new information, these webinars have and will support the mission to expand and maintain domestic and international markets for northern grown crops. NCI looks forward to hosting more market updates and connecting with past course participants in the future.
