NCI Video Production | August Update

Welcome back to an exciting August video update. As the summer winds down, the video work has not slowed in the least. On top of the usual summer courses, webinars, and events, NCI also hosted its first conference. The Ancient Grains Conference was held on July 20, 2022, at the Oliver Kelley Farm in Elk River, MN. Read on to find out more about the video production aspect from the conference and more.

Ancient Grains Conference:

In just one month, all ten videos covering the Ancient Grains Conference 2022 were completed. Fortunately, all the equipment arrived safely in Elk River with full batteries all ready to film.

The first video stop was at the banquet the night prior to the conference, where there was plenty of networking to capture. The participants were able to connect with the speakers and get to know each other before the conference began.

The day of the conference, the cameras were rolling through every presentation. There were three keynote speakers and three panel discussions. Additionally, the communications team captured plenty of video and photos from the hands-on baking demonstration in the Oliver Kelley kitchen. One participant was interviewed and shared her excitement about attending the course and learning so much about ancient grains.

NCI Director Mark Jirik and NCI Business Development Manager Neil Doty also stepped up for a few interviews talking about the conference. To watch this completed conference summary, check out the video below featured in this blog post.

Out filming at the Grand Farm for NCI’s Special Edition Market Update Webinar featuring the Grand Farm!

Off-Site and On-Site Filming:

Aside from the Ancient Grains Conference, only one off-site shooting made its way onto the NCI video production schedule this past month. Several members of the team traveled to the Grand Farm to film a video tour and explanation of the Grand Farm. It was an exciting shoot, especially capturing video with the drone flying over the research plots.

In this month’s on-site filming, one of the NCI communications team members attended the custom Feed Milling course. This course was held at the NCI feed mill for milling graduate students from NCI’s four-state region. Students from NDSU, SDSU, MSU, and U of M were invited.

Stay tuned for a video summary of the feed milling course explained by NCI’s new feed mill manager, Shane Mueller. He discusses all the aspects of feed milling along the entire value chain that were taught in the course, as well as talk about the hands-on experience the students gained from this course.

Read on for more on-site filming, dedicated specifically to NCI short courses.

Course Video & Miscellaneous:

This month’s in-person courses included the feed milling course and INTSOY. Back for the first time since Covid, INTSOY was yet another success. Participants started their tours in Minnesota before arriving in Fargo for NCI’s portion of the course.

When in Fargo, video opportunities included many taste testing demonstrations of soy-based products. The tofu and soymilk demonstrations on NCI’s tofu and soymilk machine drew the cameras near as well.

The INTSOY course recap video can be found on NCI’s social media and YouTube. It features interviews with NCI Program Manager Brian Sorenson, WISHH Program Specialist Marypat Corbett, and course participant Nas Alidu, CEO of The Little Cow in Ghana.
