NCI Video Production | June 2023 Update
June has been one for the books, and it’s not done yet. Many exciting new things were happening in the video world at NCI with even more to come. Several productions were scheduled for on-demand course material, coverage of events were successfully followed, and another exciting opportunity for a live-streamed course is on the horizon. Read on for more details.
Peltier Complex Update:
Did you know the NCI is getting a new home coming spring of 2024? You may not have heard the news until the recent video update on the Peltier Complex. Located on the campus of NDSU, the Peltier Complex will house NCI, NDTO, USDA, and NDSU Meat Sciences and NDSU Food and Cereal Sciences.
When looking for the best way to efficiently spread the news of this exciting new facility, NCI decided a video was the best way to showcase the progress. Working with NDSU’s facility management team, the video consists of digital renderings, a construction cam stop motion progression, floor plans, and on-site construction updates from the inside.
The Peltier Complex will provide over 3x the space that NCI currently has. It will also feature several shared spaces among the listed groups for an efficient way to utilize the most equipment and space.
Lab upgrades in the Peltier Complex from the current NCI include updates in the Pasta Lab, Bake Lab, and Mill Room. Three new NCI labs will also be added: Soy Lab, Protein Lab, and Fermentation Lab.
NCI Course Filming:
Another feature of the Peltier Complex will be a media room solely for video production and/or live-streaming. Until then, the NCI video team is making do with what they have. For two days straight the NCI Conference Room became a makeshift recording studio.
NCI had the pleasure of welcoming Charlie Vogel, MN Wheat Executive Director, to the “studio.” Charlie gave a presentation for the upcoming sourdough baking on-demand course. Also filming that day was NCI’s own David Boehm, Technical Manager. David gave a presentation for the Durum Foods on-demand course.
NCI Summer Ag Academy:
Making its debut this month was the first annual NCI Summer Ag Academy. The Summer Ag Academy is a three-day program hosted by NCI for high school students to explore careers in agriculture. The academy is free to attend thanks to generous sponsors. Students choose from three different tracks to follow: Animal Science, Food Science, and International Trade Policy.
The academy was held June 14-16 with students arriving on the campus of NDSU a day prior. One of the NCI video team members followed along with the food science track capturing plenty of photo and video footage over the days. Another member split between animal science and trade policy with the same intent: capture the days.
Student interviews were also conducted to be used for video promotion of next year’s academy. The students had great comments and feedback. The inaugural event was a huge success, and the NCI cannot wait to see what next year brings.
