July 12, 2024

Course Overview:

Many students studying animal nutrition or ag engineering don’t have direct access to or experience in a feed mill. NCI provides this three day workshop as a service to those students and our partner universities.

The course will be focused on participants gaining a better understanding of the feed milling industry, milling processes, and feed quality and safety standards. Participants will also experience a comprehensive overview of feed manufacturing considerations from ingredient selection to finished product. This workshop is a supplemental experience to classroom learning as students will spend time in both the classroom setting and working hands on with feed processing equipment at the NCI Feed Mill.

Objectives:

  • Improve understanding of ingredient processing and feed production.

  • Gain knowledge of standard quality control checks.

  • Observe feed mill operations and lay out.

  • Learn about feed quality and safety.

Who Should Attend?

This course is suitable for graduate students in animal science, dairy science, poultry science, ag & biosystems engineering, or related fields from any University.  Junior and senior level undergraduate students may be considered for the course as well.
