Aqua Stakeholders Meeting

Kim Koch, Ph.D., NCI Feed Center Manager, found this “little” shrimp at the largest aqua farm in Hawaii, which he toured while attending the U.S. Soybean Export Council’s (USSEC) Aqua Stakeholders Meeting in Kauai, Hawaii last week. The farm’s primary revenue is the rearing and sale of Specific Pathogen Free (SPF) Brood-stock and Post-larval shrimp into Pacific markets. These shrimp have been bred to be resistant to the three most common diseases of shrimp. The aqua farm has annual meat sales of 200 tons, which includes shrimp, fish and clams that are all produced on the site.
