Recently the Northern Crops Institute (NCI) in cooperation with Manufacturing in Montana and Agricultural Utilization Research Institute held the “Navigating Change and Building Resilience in Agrifood Processing” webinar. This webinar was designed to look at how Agrifood processors can adapt to a changing landscape. Featuring Guy Moos and Dennis Hoiberg as speakers, the webinar provided poignant insights for participants. During the hour-long market update, participants got to hear stories and insights from these two presenters and consider how their message may impact them.

Guy Moos started working at Baker Boy, the family business, while he was still a student. Over the course of his career he has worked his way up to being the President of Baker Boy, and grown the company from 3 full time employees to over 200.

Dennis Hoiberg of Lessons Learnt Consulting is an expert in resiliency, stress management, and dealing with change in rural and farm economies. Dennis has over 30 years of experience working in rural environments building resilient and strong agricultural communities. His expertise contributed to the webinar by adding insight into how bouncing back and growing can be accomplished.

Participants also got to hear from Neil Doty, Ph.D. who is the Business Development Manager at the Northern Crops Institute. Here is what he had to say about the webinar:

“The timely webinar entitled ‘Navigating Change and Building Resilience in Agrifood Processing,’ provided attendees with a real world look at how a family-owned, successful, growing company has battled major issues in recent years. Guy Moos, Owner and CEO of Baker Boy in Dickenson, ND gave the attendees a primer on how a resilient company pivots around obstacles. Two major obstacles described by Mr. Moos were the competition for labor in the Bakken oilfield region and the response to the COVID-19 pandemic. This first-rate example of organizational proactivity was followed by Dennis Hoiberg's presentation on individual resiliency in our current environment. Mr. Hoiberg provides services on personal and professional development through his company Lessons Learnt Consulting, Mr. Hoiberg provided stepwise guidance on how to individually gain resiliency, which folks can then bring into their work environment to improve their organizations. The Northern Crops Institute, the Agricultural Utilization Research Institute, and the Montana Manufacturing Extension Center, as webinar sponsors, thank Mr. Moos and Mr. Hoiberg for excellent, practical, presentations on building resilience in our agrifood industry.”
