NCI Market Update | Daryl Ritchison
Recently, Daryl Ritchison gave the feature presentation in the fifth NCI Market Update. This Market Update was part of an ongoing series created to serve past procurement course participants through providing new opportunities for participants to learn from a wide variety of experts. NCI strives to foster continued growth and professional development through these updates. The information provided to past course participants strengthens these connections and works to highlight market changes.
During this market update, participants were able to listen in and gain new insights from Ritchison about the global weather and its potential impact on markets. Daryl Ritchison is currently the Director of the North Dakota Agricultural Weather Network (NDAWN) through North Dakota State University (NDSU). He spends his time on research, public outreach and development and enhancement of tools for NDAWN, a network of 160 weather stations located throughout North Dakota, eastern Montana, and Minnesota. He also presents short and long term forecasts for the state of North Dakota and the upper Midwest and is a well-known public speaker on various topics. Previous to his current position he worked for 25 years as a meteorologist at various midwestern television and radio stations including WDAY-TV and WDAZ-TV and WDAY-AM.
Again, this was the fifth webinar in an ongoing series designed to connect with NCI’s past course participants. All past procurement course participants are invited to attend these updates and learn more about ag markets. NCI strives to connect with past course participants, as well as support regional agriculture and value-added processing.
Speaking specifically to how global forecasts impact ag markets, NCI Director Mark Jirik said, “For our participants and those who have attended the course, a lot of it comes down to working with your suppliers and understanding your supply chain. And certainly, weather and looking at some of these long term trends are something to keep an eye on.”
By hosting market updates and continuing to provide new information, these webinars have and will support the mission to expand and maintain domestic and international markets for northern grown crops. NCI looks forward to hosting more market updates and connecting with past course participants in the future.
