On July 29th, NCI welcomed participants of the Wheat Quality Council’s Spring Wheat Tour into our auditorium to talk about their findings for this year's Spring Wheat crop. After their three day tour of routes through North Dakota and parts of Minnesota, they shared a review of their tour, what was viewed, as well as estimated yield potential in each area. Dave Green, Executive Vice President of the Wheat Quality Council, led the tour and presentation, and was excited to share his findings of good quality Spring Wheat, even after the effects of the devastating drought in the upper plains area. We got the opportunity to hear insight from participants as well, and some were very surprised at what they viewed:

“Hearing reports about it versus seeing it are different and shocking.”

“Even with a little rain, the results are still shocking.”

During the wrap up of the tour, the group discussed abandonment quite a bit. A lot of participants were shocked and relayed that it was hard to determine what was abandoned and what wasn’t. They were surprised that even though this year produced such little yields, that some producers would still try to get what little they could.

Following the event, NCI held a Special Edition Market Update to share the results discussed earlier that afternoon. The webinar began with a Q&A session with David Boehm, NCI’s Technical Manager, and Dave Green from the Wheat Quality Council. David and Dave held great discussion as they touched on what surprised the group during the tour, this year's drought, and both the positive and negative conclusions they came to about this year's Spring Wheat crop and yields, and more. The webinar viewers were able to ask live questions as well in order to gain some insight about what this year's harvest might look like.

NCI enjoyed hosting The Wheat Quality Council’s Spring Wheat Tour wrap up event. We are very thankful that we got to spend our afternoon with intriguing individuals and hear comments participants made about their journey. We want to give a very big final thank you to Dave Green, for not only letting us be a part of this tour, but also participating in our Market Update webinar. We are so thankful that we have the ability to host events and welcome individuals back into our facility, as well as feature great speakers like Dave Green during our webinars.
