NCI Welcomes 2021 Summer Interns
Meet the summer help! NCI takes pride in helping students learn and grow in the professional world, so we’re happy to be joined by five new students for the summer months. Read all about them below.
First up is Elizabeth Labuhn. Elizabeth is from the small town of Ellendale, North Dakota, where she grew up on her parents farm. She is currently a senior at NDSU and is getting her degree in Strategic Communications. Liz is joining our team this summer as one of the Communications and Marketing Interns. When we asked her what she is most excited about she said “Taking everything in.” Liz described that she is very excited about this experience and wants to learn as much as possible from the team.
Next, meet Paige Buley. Paige is originally from Elk River, MN, and spent a lot of her time in the Twin Cities area before moving to Fargo. Since she didn’t get much exposure to farming in her hometown, she’s excited for the opportunity to learn more about agriculture and crops in our region. Currently, she is working towards her degree in Advertising at MSUM, and will be graduating this upcoming fall. Just like Liz, Paige is one of our Communication and Marketing Interns, and when it comes to what she is most excited about this summer, Paige said “Learning, experiencing. It’s such a different experience doing it in school versus in a real work environment. I can’t wait to meet and learn from everyone at NCI.”
In addition to our two communications and marketing interns, NCI will have three lab assistants as well this summer!
Meet Emmanuel Bruce-Banderpuije. Emmanuel flew over 6,000 miles to be here from Accra, Ghana. He arrived in Fargo about five months ago and is currently working on his Graduate degree in Construction Management from NDSU. Emmanuel joins our team as a Lab Technician. When we sat down to discuss what he’s most excited about for this summer he replied, “Learning more about American food.” When asked why this position and how it connects to his degree he told us, “It’s all about the equipment. Getting to work with it and being so hands on.”
Next up is Sam Henning, our new Lab Assistant. Sam was born and raised here in Fargo, ND. He is currently a senior at MSUM and will be graduating with a degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology. When asked what he plans to do with his degree, Sam talked about furthering his education by getting a degree in Veterinary medicine. He discussed different avenues to which he would go, but feels that it's a good idea to keep his options open. When it comes to what he is most excited for this summer he said “I’m excited to learn and have the opportunity to do so many different things!”
Lastly, meet Raimey Pastorek. Raimey just finished his freshman year at NDSU and could not be more excited to start his Sophomore year this fall as a Marketing major. Like Sam, Raimey was also born and raised here in Fargo, ND. We asked what he was most looking forward to this summer and he said “Taking the time to learn and make food at NCI.”
As NCI gears up for one of the busiest seasons of the year, we’re grateful for the extra hands. They will be working to fulfill our mission to support regional agriculture and value added processing by conducting educational and technical programs that expand and maintain domestic and international markets for northern grown crops. We couldn’t be more excited to have our interns with us this summer.
